Please start with a great Greek song;
The Pray of the World by Vangelis
(The world needs this!!!)
Kalispera sas, ti kanete?
Not easy to answer, but I believe that most people able to read this, are OK!
I wish you to be OK, I wish you to be SAFE!!!
Every day now I tell my Ira and the cats how lucky we are, living on beautiful Skopelos! No virus here, as fare as we know. 2 cases in Volos.
25th was the National day of Greece, no celebration but I picked up some nice photos;
In town one could hear music from balconies, but up here quet!
We have a LOCK DOWN since 06.00 Monday morning. Ira and I walk around up here, up and down, around and more up and down! I hear cars driving on the road, but no people around. Thursday now 4th day of lock-down. I have been to Moms, walked her Agapi, and driven a friend to the bank and some shopping. We need a form filled out when we go out, but since my printer do not work, I wrote on a paper, who I am, what I will be doing and why, and prox time, and have my passport and permission to stay card on me. I was not stopped but saw 1 police car. Very quiet on the island.
Sunday, there were many people out. Ira & I walked from home, via the beautiful Potami valley and nearly to Loutsa. we were picked up by Silje. I was going to show her the tower at Loutsa, she had never been there. I knew from Heather, Skopelos Trails, that they had cleaned the path, bravo sas! Thanks a lot!
Picks from our nice walk, not fare,a bit more than 1 km up and down, but steap and a bit difficult in between;
And the maps;
The tower is ca inside my orange circle. One can drive in but it is a bit difficult to explain, – there are the arrows of Skopelos Trails. The view is fantastic but it was a cloudy day! Next time!
Thank you Jeff!
Some photos from other days;
Some cats, Greek lesson – cuttings;
With this and that all understands why Noa took only animals on the arc …
Take care of yourself, no one else will do it for you!! Good night…
Kalimera, ti kanis? – Καλημέρα, τι κάνεις; – Good morning, how are you?
Hope you are all as good as poss!!!
We are some of the lucky ones, living on an island!
At least as long as nobody brings the virus here!!!
I am also happy that both Mom and me are used to be alone, we are not lonely, we have radio, TV, books to read and and …
As fare as I can see from “uphill” all is fine on Skopelos.
Yesterday morning woke up to only 7,2C, – it had been 16 and more.
Got some 6 mm rain, – good, cleaned the air.
No problem to buy food, medicines, petrol and more …
But cafes, tavernas and more are all closed.
Some are getting ready for the summer, but what will happen?
Quiet on the island, except for in the nature.
I am so happy that we live here and can get out several times a day, without the danger of getting the virus! Fresh air!!!
New flowers shows up every day;
Look what I saw;
I was told that a man from here imported the horses from Skyros 20 years ago. Today there are 3 here, – the mother & daughter as on my photos and a male.
They were so nice and very friendly.
What to do while have a quarantine? We, Ira & me, visit Mom
We go for walks
All photos from one of my absolutely favorite walk!
I stole-borrowed the irises from next to a dirtroad last year, there where lots of them. Most BLUE, so I am just waiting to see!!!
What else I do;
Some cutting & Greek
“MENOUME SPITI” – we stay home!!!
Call 1135 if you need info on the Corona virus, open 24 hours a day.
I wish us all an as good as possible time, be patient, be careful, use your head so hopefully we can be together again!
Now time for breakfast and then out walking …
PS I have given up trying to get all centered and letters in blue here, somebody in here are overrooling me!!
I have written a lot about happiness lately, why? Because the world for many is a sad place, – what to do … Looking at the news / so sad! I have always tried to live “on the bright side of life”!!! I am one of the lucky ones! Mom & me came here in May 1983, we were immigrants, and we were very well received! Never had a big problem, never had anybody say we were not welcomed!!! But we came because we wanted, we did not have to leave our country!
I have a cold, Mom got it, – but luckily we both has passed the worst.
We are both elderly people!!! Mom 92 ok, but me? I feel young!
Glad to get on with my walks, here is yesterday at Amarondas, outside Agnondas;
Having a cold, being a lot at home, also raining, – doing cross-stiches. Slowly I started to use up my “storage”, what to do? Close to the house I lived in in town there was kyria Sofia who sold thread and and … But she has retired. So lately I bought the things in Volos. I do not want to go to Volos!!!
So I thought of the small shop, in the narrow street, opposite Perivoli Restaurant, just up from “Platanos – Souvlaki Square”:
ΚΥΡΑΤΣΟΥΝΑ ΛΕΜΟΝΗ, “ΛΕΥΚΑ ΕΙΔΗ – ΕΝΔΥΜΑΤΑ” Google translation; WHITE CLOTHES – CLOTHING Anyway it is a small shop with soooo many things; clothes, underwear and and … and I found excately the materal I wanted and the lovely DMC treads. So I can keep on “stiching”.
It is now possible to find most things on Skopelos. Just look at te cheese desk at the supermarkeds, cheeses from many places. In an olivegrove behind my home:
The night after the full moon. I got some gifts from a good friend, all great Thenk you Silje, and this photo was taken with a small tripod, which means my phone stays still, photo gets better! It is the moon, looks a lot like the sunrise I just saw!
First a sad cutting:
The Greek Orthodox Church says “Holy Communion does not spread coronavirus.” They use the same spoon for all!!! More at greekcitytime.com
I got a cup once in Paphos, Cyprus, it says; The more I know men, the more I love my dog!”
Have a lovely rest of the week, – and I’ll keep on walking!
Kalimera sas! I had a cold, flue or whatever… No fever but running nose and and … 4 days at home! Yesterday I felt better, took a shower
and went out into the world again!
Lovely! I am lucky!
Here are some of what I saw;
“The dour color has lent it the common name Widow Iris, Black Iris, or Velvet Flower-de-Luce, though Snake’s-head or Snakeshead Iris has become most commonly used, alluding to its pointed buds that supposedly look like snaky heads with open mouths.” “The genus name Hermodactylus means “Finger of Hermes,” because the tuberous bulb looks like a gnarly pinky-finger. When taxonomists came to the agreement that this Iris was not really in the Iris genus, it was quite clever to give it a new scientific name after Hermes, for Hermes was the Messenger of the Gods, as was Iris, Mother of Rainbows, a messenger goddess.” I borrowed this from http://www.paghat.com/snakeheadiris.html
Here are lots of wild flowers and the almond trees blossom is at its best. What part of the year is best? A question “always” asked – at the moment I must say SPRING!!!
While being ill I had the TV on, mostly depressing!
You know why!
What is happening in the world?
My thoughts; I am lucky, very lucky, I live on a green island with losts of fresh water. Whenever out I see bees, bumblebees, wasps, butterflies and and …
Lots of insects.
I am happy it was just a cold!!!
Also yesterday what made me happy was that I cleaned my bed sheets, hang them in th sun and put them back on my bed, so I fell asleep with the sunny smell of nature!
So we all have to be happy for what we have and try to help and make the world the fantastic place it should be!!!
Also making me happy:
Open every weekend
What to do while having a cold and no fever;
I do not know about this;
What to confess?
One of my thoughts are;
Απολαúστε τα μικρá δϖρα στη ζωñ, εíναι δωρεáν!
Enjoy the small gifts in life, they are free!
I learned from the Greeks, they often repeat the words, like;
siga siga – σιγá σιγá – slowly slowly
I trying to have all text in the middle and BLUE
but somebody in here are sabotaging me!!!
Written some days ago; “8 Norwegians on the island at the moment, as fare as I know. All the 4 “extras” has houses here and thats what makes it so nice, they come more often than the “usual” tourist, and they stay longer!
Last night I was invited to one of the Norwegian houses in town, but the rain made me to say that I could not come, mostly because I would not find a taxi to take me home. Then I was offered a privat driver! I drove my car down, enjoyed the nice company, the great food and the very nice red wine – and was driven home! Thanks a lot!”
Sorry for having a break, but I lost my mouse!!!! It took time to find it!!! Jeg mistet musa mi!!! Pluss I have been very busy due to Apokreas/Apokries – Karnavalli!
The Trata Parade is an old tradition and great fun, but very naughty!!! Young boys and older boys make “boats” out of bamboo and more, decorated with all kind of things, most very noicy! The Tratas are draged/driven through town and many places they stop to sing, drink, dance and being naughty. I was waiting with friends inside town, but the parade did not come, they had not been allowed to make dirty too many streets, because 2 days later it would be the nameday of the Patron saint Agios Reginos. The parade was shortened. We run downtown and got a glimpse of the “end” – where they put the Tratas to sea, where they “die”!!!
Then off to Karidia Great evening with FUN, food, RETSINA & dance!
I had some fun with this photo, – and I love BLUE!!!
25th of Feb. the nameday of the Patron Saint of Skopelos:
Then on to Ta Kimata
Some dancing and fun!
Then on to Karidia where I was dancing so much that I did not have time to take any photos. You should have seen us, dancing into the streets so passing cars had to wait!!! Fun Fun Fun …
Then I woke up to this;
Mostly wherever I am walking there are views;
I have to show you some flowers;
I have never seen this, but I would like to have one bracket!
Shall we go and great Gerald?
What will happening here; Pavlos in Agnondas will open this weekend. We have the “Kales” – the fake wedding parade – on Sunday, Katharo Deftera / Clean Monday where we should eat salads and seafood by the sea … Then we go into 40 days of lent – they say …
Wish you a lovely week and lets hope “THE VIRUS” will not reach any of us!!!
Be careful !!!
Happiness is a lot of things, here are some of my moments the last 36 hours;
Waking up to sunshine
Having a walk on Skopelos
Seeing all the spring flowers
Getting THE music lunch at Karidia
Found a taxi to drive me home, thanks Kostis
Sleeping like a log
Sunshine morning again
Getting the replay of the Biathlon and Cross Country Skiing on TV
Getting messages and photos from an old boyfriend
The couple who we loved so much, – he made my wooden rowing boat, he took me out fishing, they looked after me when mom was not there – once upon a time in “another life” on another island, south in Norway.
Life is short, enjoy it while you can!
Here are som photos;
Here is the map;
I love this walk, spesially the dirt-road down the Pefkia Valley.
It was just fantastic! Because there were not a lot of guests, the music sat down next to us, and I had the feeling that they played for me!!!! I could have sit there all night, but I knew the later it gets, the more difficult to get a taxi!
Norwegian lesson; I do not know a lot about birds, but I could see immedeately who is the wife on this photo!
“Tits and juice should be fresh/natural.”
Happiness is … To enjoy the small happenings in life …
Here is her day;
Well, it was improvised, she did not want anything!
She was invited for lunch by our friends,
but said she had not the power for it!
So what to do?
I made gluten free waffles into a cake and went down for breakfast;
She put some jam on and loved it!
Then time for presents;
Little Ella does not have any money, but she found some on the road and could buy mom a Greek nail-file with owls on. Ira & Agapi had found a door mat with owls on on Amazon! Arnaki sent a Jordan – vet hvordan – owl tooth bruch with an owl on.
So “The Old Owl” got more for her big owl collection.
I have given up to count!
Then we went
Amazingly to find a baloon there,
mom thought I had put it there!!!
Afterwards we went home to mom and had lunch.
Then she said; I would love some ice cream!
I drove away and came back with 2 kilos of icecream!
Happy Birthday Kate!
Photos from the same day:
The spring is the best, nature is at its greatest!
Here comes the highlight of my “normal” week;
We just had a full moon;
Weather has been mostly nice the last days,
temps around 12 -14, +C of course.
I wish you a lovely weekend!
Remember to “Give a smile”!
