Black forest?

rhdr
Outside Agnondas, at Amarondas, we had a big forest fire on the 22nd of July, so sad, BUT nobody died and the forest will be back one day! I have said it before and say it again, we were so lucky, there was no other fires in Greece that day, so we got all the help we needed. Thanks a lot!
The next day started the TERRIBLE FIRE outside of Athens where many people lost their life and so much was destroyed! I cant help thinking, what if our “small” forest fire had occurred one day later!
They say our island is protected by the patron saint Agios Reginos!!!

The forest is not all black any more,
look there is greens growing up in between;

The good is on my walk I can also look at this;

It is still a lovely walk who takes about one hour,
Ira and me did not meet a soul, just saw and heard some birds.

From another walk;

I still go for Sunday lunches, but this was Friday night,
where we had great music too, and great KEFI!!!

Mikri is my oldest cat, she comes to eat,
but is not very friendly,
she accepts 3 strokes on her back, not more!
I have no idea where she lives.
She does not socialize with the other cats at all.

Skopelos & Volos

sdr_HDRB

This photo I think is fantastic!

As I wrote the other day, I love “shooting” in the fish harbor in Volos,
more on that a bit down.

Skopelos – always beautiful, always good to be back home.
Today I saw the first anemone, but mom saw some last week.
Here are some photos from the last days.

Over to Volos;

“Volos (Greek: Βόλος) is a coastal port city in Thessaly situated midway on the Greek mainland, about 330 kilometres (205 miles) north of Athens and 220 kilometres (137 miles) south of Thessaloniki. It is the capital of the Magnesia regional unit. Volos is the only outlet to the sea from Thessaly, the country’s largest agricultural region. With a population of 144,449 (2011), it is an important industrial centre, while its port provides a bridge between Europe, the Middle East and Asia.”

More from the fishing harbor;

I always wonder why Volos has so many red kaiikis?
They give the extra touch to the photos.
If I had been a bit earlier they were selling lots of fresh fish.

Went Volos

rhdroznor

Photos from Volos harbor, aren’t they great?

I went to Volos for a 3 days stay,
in order to fix certain things, meet a new friend
and do some shopping.
Volos is our closest town, a place we learned
to enjoy. Ca 150.000 inhabitants.

I stayed as usual at

sdr_HDRB

Mostly I am lucky to get a front room
and I love the view;

The sunset was beautiful and later it was time for a dinner at the Noodle Bar, I love every now and then to eat something not Greek!

I also had to go to IKEA in Larissa
(photos from inside the cafeteria);

“Mount Olympus (/ˈlɪmpəs, əˈlɪm-/ Greek: Όλυμπος Olympos, for Modern Greek also transliterated Olimbos, [ˈolimbos] or [ˈolibos]) is the highest mountain in Greece. It is located in the Olympus Range on the border between Thessaly and Macedonia, between the regional units of Pieria and Larissa, about 80 km (50 mi) southwest from Thessaloniki. Mount Olympus has 52 peaks, deep gorges, and exceptional biodiversity. The highest peak, Mytikas (Μύτικας Mýtikas), meaning “nose”, rises to 2,918 metres (9,573 ft). It is one of the highest peaks in Europe in terms of topographic prominence.
Olympus is notable in Greek mythology as the home of the Greek gods, on Mytikas peak. Mount Olympus is also noted for its rich flora. It has been a National Park, the first in Greece, since 1938. It is also a World Biosphere Reserve.”
From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Olympus

“The Pindus (also Pindos or Pindhos[) (Greek: Πίνδος) mountain range is located in northern Greece and southern Albania. It is roughly 160 km long, with a maximum elevation of 2,637m (Mount Smolikas). Because it runs along the border of Thessaly and Epirus, the Pindus range is known colloquially as the spine of Greece. The mountain range stretches from near the Greek-Albanian border in Northern Epirus, entering the Epirus and Macedonia regions in northern Greece down to the north of the Peloponnese. Geologically it is an extension of the Dinaric Alps, which dominate the western region of the Balkan Peninsula.”
This was from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pindus

Since I am into mountains, here is one more

rbsh
I think it is;

“Mount Othrys (Greek: όρος Όθρυς – oros Othrys, also Όθρη – Othri) is a mountain in central Greece, in the northeastern part of Phthiotis and southern part of Magnesia. Its highest summit, Gerakovouni, situated on the border of Phthiotis and Magnesia, is 1,726 m above sea level. The population density in the mountains is low: there are a few small villages, including Anavra in the northwest, Kokkotoi in the northeast, Palaiokerasia in the south and Neraida in the southwest. The length from west to east is about 35 km and the width from north to south is about 25 km. The Pagasetic Gulf lies to the northeast, and the Malian Gulf lies to the south. The summit Gerakovouni lies 19 km south of Almyros, 27 km northeast of Lamia and 44 km southwest of Volos. The upper ranges of the mountain are rocky, and there are forests in the lower ranges. The entire area is also a parkland.
The main source of rock is ophiolite.”

Here are the last days;

It is so nice to behave like a child, every now and then ;o)

We had snow for about 2 days, white and beautiful!
Some power-cuts, not too bad.
But some of us high up did not have water for 4 days!
I collected snow in buckets for my loo!
Cleaned all with baby napkinses.
No problem, but a bit irritating,
because when the water came back, it was brown!!!
That left after some hours, so we are OK!

More snow;

The great thing here is that the winter does not last forever!!!
This was today;

smacap_Brightsmacap_Bright

BUT it was not warm, the wind was very cold.
Last 24 hours we had between 9 and 5,2C,
plus of course.
During the snow it was around 0!

I had time to pack away

There is notthing as quiet as snow – wrote the Danish poet Helge Rode in 1896.

During the night here it was just down to +2,2C and now 09.37 I have 2,5.        The snow is melting and it looks more like rain now.

We knew this was coming so both mom and me a ready with lots of food and heating.
